Christine B. Brezina

03/21/2025

Christine B. Brezina, 82, of Limestone, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, March 21, 2025, at Ballad Hospice House in Bristol, surrounded with love by her three children.

Born in New York City on February 13, 1943, Christine was the only child of William Calvin and Elizabeth Brightman. Her father, serving honorably in the U.S. Navy, died in the Pacific during World War II when Christine was just two years old.

Christine pursued a career as an science educator initially later transitioning to the medical field as a medical laboratory technologist. She always strove for excellence in everything she did.

Later, after relocating to South Florida with her mother, she met her husband, Dr. Edward S. Brezina, while working at the same hospital. Their partnership was one of deep affection, mutual respect, and shared purpose. Together, they raised three children: Elizabeth, William, and Lyndall.
Christine and her husband shared a love of gardening and growing plants that was instilled in all three children.

After retirement, the couple moved to eastern Tennessee, drawn by the beauty of the mountains and the opportunity to be closer to family. She was a loving presence in their daily lives, always willing to lend a hand, offer guidance, or simply share quiet moments with her grandchildren.

Christine was a woman of many quiet talents. She loved to crochet, creating thoughtful handmade blankets for her loved ones. But perhaps more than anything, she showed her love through cooking. Whether it was a tried-and-true family meal, or a new recipe shared with friends, Christine poured care and heart into every dish she made. Feeding others was how she gave of herself, how she celebrated, comforted, and connected.

She also found deep spiritual connection in a multi-denominational Bible study group and remained grounded in her Catholic faith.

In her later years, Christine cared lovingly for husband, Edward, until his passing in 2021, a testament to her strength, devotion, and grace.
Christine will be remembered for her inquisitive mind, her storytelling, her quiet resilience, and her boundless love for her family. She brought warmth and wisdom to every room she entered and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, intellect, and gentle humor.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Palmer (Brent) of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Lyndall Kuch (Aron) of Charleston, South Carolina; her son, William Brezina (Lindsey) of Tampa, Florida; and her cherished grandchildren: William Luke Palmer, Ava Palmer, Catherine Brezina, William Brezina Jr., and Bohden Brezina. She also leaves behind beloved cousins and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

The family will be holding a visitation from 6 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday, April 2nd, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Jonesborough, TN. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Greeneville, with Father Kuzhupil officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

I was Christine's dental hygienist and saw her very often over the course of many years. She and I both look forward to our visits where shared recipes, gardening tricks, and of course our love for books. Many times she brought me books she wanted me to read or an article she felt I would enjoy. She appreciated my expertise and I, hers. While generations apart we were friends. I was so excited to tell her of my whipped honey adventures upon our next visit, as well as, the latest book I finished. Please know I cared immensely for your mother and she will be greatly missed in my office.

Christine was a dear friend and neighbor. We enjoyed sharing stories of our childhood and many unique experiences. She was a very intelligent lady and was very astute to inquire about the unfamiliar and then share with others. She had traveled far and wide, and lived an interesting life overseas for a period of time. I loved hearing about her travel experiences, and her wit was endearing! In caring for her husband, she never complained. She remained very positive, most always with a beautiful smile and pleasant demeanor. I know her husband was very appreciative of her loving care. Her positivity showed her love of God and her fellowman. Her faith was strong in the Lord and she was a great believer in prayer. One of her favorite things to do was to attend our community Bible Study. She easily made friends and loved the fellowship with the ladies and sharing favorite dishes! Everyone loved her zest for life! Christine was well loved and will be missed by her dear friends. Rest in peace, dear friend, Carolyn
