Mr. John Nelson Slagle, age 89, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

John was born in Boones Creek, Tennessee on August 24, 1935, to the late Lem and Savanah Slagle.

In addition to his Parents, John was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jerry McCurry and several brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years, Betty Slagle; Sister: Dorothy Saylor; Children: Ruth Wells (Dwayne), Dixie McCurry, Penny Holley (Ric), Johnny Slagle (Becky), Ray Slagle (Tina), Cheryl Slagle, Roy Slagle (Dawn), Bobby Slagle; Grandchildren: Bobby Carr, Sarah Dugger (Andy), Thomas McCurry (Cassie) Bruce Holley (Audrey), Emily Hodgson, Jonathan Slagle (Kassee), Amanda Davis (Arron), Nicolle Wells, Karina Slagle, Ty Slagle; Great Grandchildren: Devin, Tiffany, Lindsey, Lucas, Malachi, Elizabeth, Brooklyn, Sophia, Pauline, Everly, Maddie, Natalie, Kayce, Greyson, and Eliza.

John Loved the Lord. “for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:9

He was an active member of Union Christian Church serving several positions, Youth Leader, and Deacon. He moved his membership to Boones Creek Christian Church and was very active there serving where he could.

John was a very talented self-taught man. He was a Master Upholsterer. He owned his own shops, S&S Upholstery in Ohio and Speedway Seat Covers in Tennessee. He especially loved working on Street Rods and going to the Rod Runs and car shows. His hobbies included all kinds of watersports, he loved playing cards “Euchre”, driving and building dirt track racecars and demolition derby cars. He also loved the outdoors.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Boones Creek Christian Church, 2684 Boones Creek Rd, Johnson City, TN 37615. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, prior to the service.
